"Pada Seva means to serve the lotus feet of Guru and Krishna. You cannot serve Krishna without Guru, or serve just Guru without serving Krishna. They must be served or offered pada seva simultaneously." - Srila Prabhupada

  • "A highly advanced Vaisnava lives in such a way that no one can understand what he is or what he was." (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 7.3.14, Purport)
  • "... there is nothing as profitable as the association of pure devotees." (Teachings of Lord Caitanya, Page 341)
  • "By the mercy of the spiritual master one receives the benediction of Krsna. Without the grace of the spiritual master, one cannot make any advancement." (Sri Sri Gurv-astaka, Verse 8)
  • "A pure devotee cannot forget the Supreme Lord for a moment, and similarly, the Supreme Lord cannot forget His pure devotee for a moment." (Bhagavad-gita As It Is, 8.15, Purport)
  • "The Spiritual Master is present wherever his sincere disciple is trying to serve his instructions. " (Srila Prabhupada letter, 12/01/73)

  • "My dear Partha, one who claims to be My devotee is not so. Only a person who claims to be the devotee of My devotee is actually My devotee." (Lord Krsna, Adi Purana)
  • "Pure devotees of the Lord are more powerful than the waters of the sacred river Ganges. One can derive spiritual benefit out of prolonged use of the Ganges waters. But one can be sanctified at once by the mercy of a pure devotee of the Lord." (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 1.1.15, Purport)
  • "No one can approach the Supreme Personality of Godhead directly. One must approach Him through His pure devotees." (Nectar of Devotion, Chapter 12)

Qualities of Krishna

Qualities of Krishna - An answer to Why Krishna is The Supreme Personality of Godhead, what are the sixty-four (64) qualities of Krishna, what are the qualities of Vishnu, Siva and Brahma.

Qualities of Krishna

The Divine and Transcendental Qualities of Krishna

ananta kṛṣṇera guṇa, cauṣaṭṭi — pradhāna
eka eka guṇa śuni’ juḍāya bhakta-kāṇa

“The transcendental qualities of Lord Kṛṣṇa are unlimited. Out of these, sixty-four are considered prominent. The ears of the devotees are satisfied simply by hearing all these qualities one after the other.
[Sri Caitanya Caritamrita - Madhya-līlā 23.69]
Attempting to analyze the transcendental qualities of Krishna is like counting the ocean waves. Like Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is Krishna Himself , has said - Krishna has unlimited qualities. Out of which 64 are most prominent. This article will be attempting to discuss on these 64 qualities.

ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo
mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate
iti matvā bhajante māṁ
budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ

I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.
[Bhagavad Gita - 10.8]

na me viduḥ sura-gaṇāḥ
prabhavaṁ na maharṣayaḥ
aham ādir hi devānāṁ
maharṣīṇāṁ ca sarvaśaḥ

Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin or opulences, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages.
[Bhagavad Gita - 10.2]
From the above verses of Bhagavad Gita, one can clearly understand Krishna as the Origin of entire creation, including all Demi-Gods and Sages.

ete cāṁśa-kalāḥ puṁsaḥ
kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam
indrāri-vyākulaṁ lokaṁ
mṛḍayanti yuge yuge

All of the above-mentioned incarnations are either plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord, but Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is the original Personality of Godhead. All of them appear on planets whenever there is a disturbance created by the atheists. The Lord incarnates to protect the theists.
[Srimad Bhagavatam 1.3.28]
From the above verse of Srimad Bhagavatam, one can clearly understand Krishna as The Original Personality of Godhead and as the fountainhead of all incarnations including Balaram, Narayan, Vishnu.

Three Tattvas - Vishnu, Siva and Jiva

So Krishna is the original living entity and from Him emanates many other living entities, which can be classified in three grades, as explained below

For example, some electric bulbs have the power of one thousand candles, some have the power of five hundred candles, some the power of one hundred candles, some fifty candles, etc., but all electric bulbs have light. Light is present in every bulb, but the gradations of light are different. Similarly, there are gradations of Brahman. The Viṣṇu svāṁśa expansions of the Supreme Lord in different Viṣṇu forms are like lamps, Lord Śiva is also like a lamp, and the supreme candle power, or the one-hundred-percent light, is Kṛṣṇa. The viṣṇu-tattva has ninety-four percent, the śiva-tattva has eighty-four percent, Lord Brahmā has seventy-eight percent, and the living entities are also like Brahmā, but in the conditioned state their power is still more dim. There are gradations of Brahman, and no one can deny this fact.
[Srimad Bhagavatam 4.1.15 - Purport ]

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, is the origin.

According to the Vedic conception, there are two types of expansions:
  1. God's personal expansions, called viṣṇu-tattva,
  2. His partial part-and-parcel expansions, called jīva-tattva.
There are many varieties of personal expansions: puruṣa-avatāras, śaktyāveśa-avatāras, manvantara-avatāras, and so on.

For the creation of this material world, the Lord expands as Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara (Śiva).

Viṣṇu is a personal expansion, and Brahmā is a jīva-tattva expansion. Even we and all demigods fall under this category. Between the personal viṣṇu-tattva expansions and the jīva-tattva expansions is a kind of intermediate expansion called Śiva, or Maheśvara.

Qualities of Jiva Tattva

Out of the 64 Qualities of Krishna, the first fifty (50) qualities may appear partially in Jiva. These will be more prominent in Lord Brahma, however for us in a conditioned state, these might not manifest in full.

jīveṣv ete vasanto ’pi
bindu-bindutayā kvacit
paripūrṇatayā bhānti
tatraiva puruṣottame

‘These qualities are sometimes very minutely exhibited in living beings, but they are fully manifested in the Supreme Personality of Godhead.’
[Sri Caitanya Caritamrita - Madhya-līlā 23.77]

Qualities of Siva Tattva

The above mentioned qualities are also present in demigods like Lord Siva. Apart from above 50, 5 more Qualities of Krishna partially appear in Siva Tattva, so total of 55 qualities out of 64 qualities of Krishna.

atha pañca-guṇā ye syur
aṁśena giriśādiṣu

‘Apart from these fifty qualities, there are five other qualities found in the Supreme Personality of Godhead that are partially present in demigods like Śiva.
[Sri Caitanya Caritamrita - Madhya-līlā 23.77]

Qualities of Vishnu Tattva

All the above qualities appear in full in Visnhu Tattva (Personal expansion of Krishna - like Narayan, Vishnu, Narasimha Dev etc). Apart from above 55, 5 more Qualities of Krishna are present in Vishnu Tattva. So Vishnu Tattva has 60 qualities out of 64 qualities of Krishna.

athocyante guṇāḥ pañca
ye lakṣmīśādi-vartinaḥ
avicintya-mahā-śaktiḥ
koṭi-brahmāṇḍa-vigrahaḥ

There are another five qualities, which exist in the Vaikuṇṭha planets in Nārāyaṇa, the Lord of Lakṣmī. These qualities are also present in Kṛṣṇa, but they are not present in demigods like Lord Śiva or in other living entities.
[Sri Caitanya Caritamrita - Madhya-līlā 23.80]

Reference from Srimad Bhagavatam 1.3.28:

Learned scholars in transcendental subjects have carefully analyzed the summum bonum Krsna to have sixty-four principal attributes. All the expansions or categories of the Lord possess only some percentages of these attributes. But Sri Krsna is the possessor of the attributes cent percent.

And His personal expansions such as svayam-prakasa, tad-ekatma up to the categories of the avataras who are all visnu-tattva, possess up to ninety-three percent of these transcendental attributes.

Lord Siva, who is neither avatara nor avesa nor in between them, possesses almost eighty-four percent of the attributes.

But the jivas, or the individual living beings in different statuses of life, possess up to the limit of seventy-eight percent of the attributes. In the conditioned state of material existence, the living being possesses these attributes in very minute quantity, varying in terms of the pious life of the living being. The most perfect of living beings is Brahma, the supreme administrator of one universe. He possesses seventy-eight percent of the attributes in full.

All other demigods have the same attributes in less quantity, whereas human beings possess the attributes in very minute quantity. The standard of perfection for a human being is to develop the attributes up to seventy-eight percent in full.

The living being can never possess attributes like Siva, Visnu or Lord Krsna. A living being can become godly by developing the seventy-eight-percent transcendental attributes in fullness, but he can never become a God like Siva, Visnu or Krsna. He can become a Brahma in due course.

The godly living beings who are all residents of the planets in the spiritual sky are eternal associates of God in different spiritual planets called Hari-dhama and Mahesa-dhama.

The abode of Lord Krsna above all spiritual planets is called Krsnaloka or Goloka Vrndavana, and the perfected living being, by developing seventy-eight percent of the above attributes in fullness, can enter the planet of Krsnaloka after leaving the present material body.

One God Many Religion | Similarity in Gita and Bible | Father of Jesus | Krishna is God

Every true seeker of spiritual knowledge understands and admits that there is only one God, and, every scriptures and religion speaks about Him.

Like Srila Prabhupada had repeatedly said,
God is neither Indian nor American nor otherwise, neither Christian nor Hindu nor Muslim. God is God.

Still, there are few people, who either with limited or perverted knowledge or due to their selfish agendas tend to create differences. These classes of people tend to mislead the innocent people resulting in hate based on religious grounds.

Many young people are choosing to become atheists because they feel religiosity causes violence and social division.

If we seek the shelter of an authentic guru from an authentic Sampradaya, we get to understand the truth without any distortion. Thus we get to understand every religion talks about the same God and there are no contradictions.

The purpose of this article is an attempt to draw parallels between two powerful scriptures of the world, Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Holy Bible. Some of the very important Statements of Sri Krishna (in Srimad Bhagavad Gita), listed below, are also been repeated by His dear Son - Lord Jesus (in Holy Bible), thus proving Jesus was referring to Krishna in Bible.

There can be many more similarities but focusing on the prime messages to keep the length of article short.

1. Krishna / God is in everyone’s heart as the Supersoul.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“I am the Supersoul, O Arjuna, seated in the hearts of all living entities.” (Lord Krishna,Bhagavad-Gita 10.20)

“I am in everyone’s heart as the Supersoul.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 7.21)

“I, dwelling in their hearts.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 10.11)

“The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone’s heart.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 18.61)

Holy Bible:

“One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians 4:6)

“And they tempted God in their heart.” (Psalm 78.18)

2. Krishna / God – the Source of Knowledge

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 15.15)

Holy Bible:

“The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.” (John 14.10)

3. Krishna / God – Our Father

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunte, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving father.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 14.4)

“I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable om. I am also the Rg, the Sama and the Yajur Vedas.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 9.17)

“I am the son of God” (Jesus)

4. Krishna / God has form and not formless.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 9.11)

Holy Bible:

“God said ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.’ ” (Genesis 1:26)

5. Krishna / God can only be known through a Spiritual Master

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 4.34)

Holy Bible:

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)

6. We should love Krishna / God with unfailing devotion

Uddhava-Gita:

“I am the Supreme Lord of all creation and I create and destroy this universe, being it’s ultimate cause. I am the Absolute Truth and one who worships Me with unfailing devotional service comes to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Uddhava Gita 12.45)

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“O son of Kunti, all that you do, all that you eat, all that you offer and give away, as well as all austerities that you may perform, should be done as an offering unto Me.
In this way you will be freed from all reactions to good and evil deeds, and by this principle of renunciation you will be liberated and come to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 9.27 - 28)

“Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, offer obeisances and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 9.34)

Holy Bible:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” (Deu 6:5)

7. Who inherits the kingdom of Krishna / God and who doesn't?

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance-these qualities belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Prtha.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.4)

“Bewildered by false ego, strength, pride, lust and anger, the demons become envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is situated in their own bodies and in the bodies of others, and blaspheme against the real religion.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.18)

“One who is not envious but is a kind friend to all living entities, who does not think himself a proprietor and is free from false ego, who is equal in both happiness and distress, who is tolerant, always satisfied, self-controlled, and engaged in devotional service with determination, his mind and intelligence fixed on Me-such a devotee of Mine is very dear to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 12-13-14)

Holy Bible:

“Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:21)

“Nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit kingdom of God.”(Corinthians 6:10)

8. Supreme Abode of Krishna / God needs no Sun and Moon.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“That supreme abode of Mine is not illumined by the sun or moon, nor by fire or electricity. Those who reach it never return to this material world.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 15.6)

Holy Bible:

“And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 22:5)

9. Krishna /God is the beginning and the end.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 10.32)

“Of letters I am the letter A, and among compound words I am the dual compound.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 10.33)

Holy Bible:

“I am alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” (Revelation 22:13)

Thus it is a proof for the entire humanity that every religion speaks about one Supreme Personality of Godhead. He has many names according to His qualities. We may call Him God, we may call Him Allah (The Greatest One) or we may call Him Krishna (The All Attractive One).

The below quote summarizes the entire article with a graphic example.

A dog will recognize his master in whatever way he dresses. The master may dress in robes, suit and tie, or stand naked, but the dog will always recognize his master. If we cannot recognize God, our beloved master, when he comes in a different dress from another religion, then we are less than that dog.

One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.

Srimati Radharani - The Universal Mother

Krishna means “all-attractive”, someone who is supremely opulent enough to attract everybody. However, Srimati Radharani is so great that She attracts Krishna.

Srimati Radharani, I offer my respects to You whose bodily complexion is like molten gold. O Goddess, You are the queen of Vrindavana. You are the daughter of King Vrishabhanu, and are very dear to Lord Krishna.

The Supreme Person - Lord Krishna

Cherish the treasure all, the happy day has come,
The Supreme Person Lord Krishna has appeared;
Mathura The holy place, the all auspicious abode,
The Lord and Master of all the cause of causes.

O Lord You swiftly moved to Vrindavan after appearance,
Accepts Yashoda Nanda your devotees as parents for pleasure;
You are the darling of all Vrajavasis, the loved butter theif,
O dear enchanter Lord Krishna, I want to sing your glories always.

Clad in yellow garment decorated with flowers, You are rising sun,
The Divine flute touches Your sweet lips, the sweet music drowns one;
Your dance pose of three bends attracts even cupids, O Madan Mohana,
O Lord of compassion remove fear of worldy existence, thou salutations.

You as cowherd boy from Nandagrama gives happiness to elderly gopis,
Positioning Yourself as their son when Brahma stole playfully in illusion;
O Lord you are the protector of devotees, the destroyer of miscreants,
So push thy onward march, O pious soul a real hero stands for one indeed.

Fallen in spine-chilling material world, I am in agony till very end,
My heart burns in the fire of sense gratification, I pour butter instead water;
One who associates Your devotees and worships You only suffering ceases,
I try to take shelter of Your lotus feet as my life and death.

When will I meet that Lord Krishna, who is dark in complexion,
When will I be able to serve You in various ways, and give a seat in my heart;
Decorate with peacock feather, Cook food offer sandalwood paste, other fragnances,
O Lord Krishna, the son of Nanda when will these happen, I the fallen soul take pity on me.

Such a wicked mind I have, it binds me to this material world to enjoy the senses,
To acaryas prayers You answered, Your pure and elevated devotees finally has come;
One of Your associates called Srila Prabhupada the expert navigator of material ocean,
O Lord hearing Your devotees words I came weeping to Your lotus feet and tell my story.

Give thou shelter at Your lotus feet O Lord Krishna even Goddess Lakshmi desires,
O Lord I accept my defeat as all my endeavors are useless and sing Your holy name;
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare,
Hare Rama    Hare Rama     Rama    Rama    Hare Hare.
