The Secret is Revealed

Once a friend of mine visited us and presented us with a book called ‘The Secret’. This is a best-selling 2006 self-help motivational book authored by Rhonda Byrne. The book is based on the belief of the law of attraction and describes how our thoughts can shape our lives. The author states that every thought has a frequency, it is a force by which we attract what we think and when one emits the perfect frequency of what one wants, the item is attracted and delivered. In this book, the author reveals a secret – a secret by which one can acquire wealth, power, good health and good relationships.

The secret is to
ask – for what we want,
believe– that we have received it and finally
receive – feel as though we have received it; and it will then be ours.

This could be applied to any field- literature, religion, philosophy. All the people who knew this secret have been the greatest achievers in history: Plato, Newton, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Lincoln, Edison, Einstein.

As I read this book, a thought crept up in my mind. Does this principle of the law of attraction also hold true in the spiritual plane?  To my surprise, I found great similarity in the concept of the Secret and teachings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita.

Krishna means all attractive. He is full of all the six opulences, unparalleled in the entire creation. But instead of getting attracted to Krishna, we spend all our lives chasing material pleasures. This material world is described by Krishna as
temporary world, which is full of miseries
Bhagavad Gita – 8.15
Thus we always end up getting more and more entangled and frustrated. If at all we manage to get some happiness, it is transient.  We keep on pursuing happiness in this world, which is an illusion like a mirage, only because our knowledge is stolen by illusion, that we are attracted to material pleasures instead of being attracted to the Lord. The Lord states in the Gita:
Those miscreants who are grossly foolish, who are lowest among mankind, whose knowledge is stolen by illusion, and who partake of the atheistic nature of demons do not surrender unto Me.
Bhagavad Gita - 7.15
Lord Krishna tells us in the Gita how we can attain Him and thus be eternally happy.
A person in full consciousness of Me, knowing Me to be the ultimate beneficiary of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attains peace from the pangs of material miseries.
Bhagavad Gita – 5.29
Hence if we wish to be eternally happy, we must develop intense love for Krishna and sincerely beg for His mercy.

The secret is to remember Him at all times and surrender with intelligence and mind. We should have unflinching faith and believe in His grace and then we are sure to receive His mercy.

Having said that, remembering Him constantly doesn’t mean that we neglect our material engagements or worldly duties. Rather Krishna has instructed us that while continuing in our respective material engagements and responsibilities, we must always remember Him.
Therefore Arjuna, you should always think of Me in the form of Krishna and at the same time carry out your prescribed duty (of fighting). With your activities dedicated to Me and your mind and intelligence fixed on Me, you will attain Me without doubt.
Bhagavad Gita 8.7
By fixing our mind and intelligence in Krishna and by emitting the perfect thought frequency, we can attain Him without a doubt.

Thus we too can be achievers, all we should do is very sincerely beg the Lord for His mercy, have faith in His grace and we shall certainly, receive His Mercy and go back to Godhead.

This is the secret to attain the perfection of human life.

The Most Blessed Moment

I cannot understand how it could happen, because I know all my limitations very clearly.

Srila Prabhupada, it could be possible by only Your's and Your Servant's causeless mercy, that I came in contact with Your teachings, through the commentaries of Bhagavad Gita As It Is which is the nectar of all the sastras. That was the most significant moment in my millions of lifetimes. After coming in this movement of Krishna Consciousness, I understood that someone is praying for us, that is why I am here, in this Vaishnava Community and getting a chance to perform Bhakti in the association of devotees.

Kali-Yuga is rapidly progressing and everything around us is degrading due to the influence of Maya and Kali. Srila Prabhupada, I am always fearful that my limitations and conditionings may again pull me down and I may lose this most valuable opportunity. From the day I came in contact with your teachings, Srila Prabhupada, my inquisitiveness has increased exponentially. Srila Prabhupada, the gifts that you have given to this world is immense and I am also one amongst thousands to receive it.

In Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that people of the world, observes and then follows the actions of great souls in this world.
Whatever action a great man performs, common men follow. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues.

- Bhagavad Gita 3.21

You have shown by your own personal example, by serving your Spiritual Master and Lord Caitanya – against all odds – is the foremost duty of a devotee. Today, we all can see that all your disciples and grand disciples are trying to follow your instructions and propagating this Krishna Consciousness movement across the world.  It is wonderful to see so many people practicing Krishna Consciousness today and thus thousands, including myself, are relishing this precious association of the devotees.

Krishna clearly says to Arjuna that there is no truth superior to Him
O conqueror of wealth, there is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread.
Bhagavad Gita: 7.7
and also mentions that the ultimate goal of Vedic Knowledge is to know Him

By all the Vedas, I am to be known.
Bhagavad Gita: 15.15

The same truth is mentioned in all Vedic Scriptures and was widespread by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and his associates. Still with the passing of time and lacking the systematic scriptural studies,  most people became ignorant about the ultimate goal of Vedas, hence, misunderstood that Sanatan Dharma (or Hinduism) supports polytheism. But now, people across the world know that all the revealed scriptures and all the religions of the world speak about only one God - Krishna, who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

How has it become possible?

Only because of Your mercy and efforts. How determined you were to fulfill your Spiritual master’s desires! Hope someday even we can get this mood by Your mercy. You are the original Torchlight with which, thousands of blown out candles like me, are getting lightened up with the treasure trove of Spiritual Knowledge.

I always feel the most blessed moment of my life is when I came into this Krishna Consciousness movement.

Glorifying Your Divine Grace, Srila Prabhupada is like showing lamp to the sun but for my own purification, with all my humility, I am attempting to write this poem. Humbly beg to please forgive my offenses.

Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead,
Conditioned souls have forgotten;
Thereby all of them fell into material ocean,
Suffering here terribly, full of lamentation.

Srila Prabhupada, Your Divine Grace came here to save us,
The matchless gift of Krishna Consciousness, you gave us;
In old age with no wealth, you went to the West,
To deliver the most fallen souls by giving them the Best.

For His pure devotee, Krishna made all arrangements,
Many youths came to help with great encouragement;
Because of your mercy, many got this wonderful chance,
I am also one, who got your merciful glance.

To spread glories of Krishna, is your life’s only goal,
Undoubtedly, spiritual master’s instruction is your life and soul.
Please bless me that I can follow your instruction as my life and soul,
Without your causeless mercy, no hope of achieving this ultimate goal.

Your's most insignificant servant, always in the queue to serve you, life after life,
Lokanath Gaura Das.
