One God Many Religion | Similarity in Gita and Bible | Father of Jesus | Krishna is God

Every true seeker of spiritual knowledge understands and admits that there is only one God, and, every scriptures and religion speaks about Him.

Like Srila Prabhupada had repeatedly said,
God is neither Indian nor American nor otherwise, neither Christian nor Hindu nor Muslim. God is God.

Still, there are few people, who either with limited or perverted knowledge or due to their selfish agendas tend to create differences. These classes of people tend to mislead the innocent people resulting in hate based on religious grounds.

Many young people are choosing to become atheists because they feel religiosity causes violence and social division.

If we seek the shelter of an authentic guru from an authentic Sampradaya, we get to understand the truth without any distortion. Thus we get to understand every religion talks about the same God and there are no contradictions.

The purpose of this article is an attempt to draw parallels between two powerful scriptures of the world, Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Holy Bible. Some of the very important Statements of Sri Krishna (in Srimad Bhagavad Gita), listed below, are also been repeated by His dear Son - Lord Jesus (in Holy Bible), thus proving Jesus was referring to Krishna in Bible.

There can be many more similarities but focusing on the prime messages to keep the length of article short.

1. Krishna / God is in everyone’s heart as the Supersoul.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“I am the Supersoul, O Arjuna, seated in the hearts of all living entities.” (Lord Krishna,Bhagavad-Gita 10.20)

“I am in everyone’s heart as the Supersoul.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 7.21)

“I, dwelling in their hearts.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 10.11)

“The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone’s heart.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 18.61)

Holy Bible:

“One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians 4:6)

“And they tempted God in their heart.” (Psalm 78.18)

2. Krishna / God – the Source of Knowledge

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 15.15)

Holy Bible:

“The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.” (John 14.10)

3. Krishna / God – Our Father

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunte, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving father.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 14.4)

“I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable om. I am also the Rg, the Sama and the Yajur Vedas.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 9.17)

“I am the son of God” (Jesus)

4. Krishna / God has form and not formless.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 9.11)

Holy Bible:

“God said ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.’ ” (Genesis 1:26)

5. Krishna / God can only be known through a Spiritual Master

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 4.34)

Holy Bible:

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)

6. We should love Krishna / God with unfailing devotion

“I am the Supreme Lord of all creation and I create and destroy this universe, being it’s ultimate cause. I am the Absolute Truth and one who worships Me with unfailing devotional service comes to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Uddhava Gita 12.45)

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“O son of Kunti, all that you do, all that you eat, all that you offer and give away, as well as all austerities that you may perform, should be done as an offering unto Me.
In this way you will be freed from all reactions to good and evil deeds, and by this principle of renunciation you will be liberated and come to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 9.27 - 28)

“Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, offer obeisances and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 9.34)

Holy Bible:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” (Deu 6:5)

7. Who inherits the kingdom of Krishna / God and who doesn't?

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance-these qualities belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Prtha.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.4)

“Bewildered by false ego, strength, pride, lust and anger, the demons become envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is situated in their own bodies and in the bodies of others, and blaspheme against the real religion.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 16.18)

“One who is not envious but is a kind friend to all living entities, who does not think himself a proprietor and is free from false ego, who is equal in both happiness and distress, who is tolerant, always satisfied, self-controlled, and engaged in devotional service with determination, his mind and intelligence fixed on Me-such a devotee of Mine is very dear to Me.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 12-13-14)

Holy Bible:

“Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:21)

“Nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit kingdom of God.”(Corinthians 6:10)

8. Supreme Abode of Krishna / God needs no Sun and Moon.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“That supreme abode of Mine is not illumined by the sun or moon, nor by fire or electricity. Those who reach it never return to this material world.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 15.6)

Holy Bible:

“And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 22:5)

9. Krishna /God is the beginning and the end.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita:

“Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 10.32)

“Of letters I am the letter A, and among compound words I am the dual compound.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 10.33)

Holy Bible:

“I am alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” (Revelation 22:13)

Thus it is a proof for the entire humanity that every religion speaks about one Supreme Personality of Godhead. He has many names according to His qualities. We may call Him God, we may call Him Allah (The Greatest One) or we may call Him Krishna (The All Attractive One).

The below quote summarizes the entire article with a graphic example.

A dog will recognize his master in whatever way he dresses. The master may dress in robes, suit and tie, or stand naked, but the dog will always recognize his master. If we cannot recognize God, our beloved master, when he comes in a different dress from another religion, then we are less than that dog.

The Secret is Revealed

Once a friend of mine visited us and presented us with a book called ‘The Secret’. This is a best-selling 2006 self-help motivational book authored by Rhonda Byrne. The book is based on the belief of the law of attraction and describes how our thoughts can shape our lives. The author states that every thought has a frequency, it is a force by which we attract what we think and when one emits the perfect frequency of what one wants, the item is attracted and delivered. In this book, the author reveals a secret – a secret by which one can acquire wealth, power, good health and good relationships.

The secret is to
ask – for what we want,
believe– that we have received it and finally
receive – feel as though we have received it; and it will then be ours.

This could be applied to any field- literature, religion, philosophy. All the people who knew this secret have been the greatest achievers in history: Plato, Newton, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Lincoln, Edison, Einstein.

As I read this book, a thought crept up in my mind. Does this principle of the law of attraction also hold true in the spiritual plane?  To my surprise, I found great similarity in the concept of the Secret and teachings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita.

Krishna means all attractive. He is full of all the six opulences, unparalleled in the entire creation. But instead of getting attracted to Krishna, we spend all our lives chasing material pleasures. This material world is described by Krishna as
temporary world, which is full of miseries
Bhagavad Gita – 8.15
Thus we always end up getting more and more entangled and frustrated. If at all we manage to get some happiness, it is transient.  We keep on pursuing happiness in this world, which is an illusion like a mirage, only because our knowledge is stolen by illusion, that we are attracted to material pleasures instead of being attracted to the Lord. The Lord states in the Gita:
Those miscreants who are grossly foolish, who are lowest among mankind, whose knowledge is stolen by illusion, and who partake of the atheistic nature of demons do not surrender unto Me.
Bhagavad Gita - 7.15
Lord Krishna tells us in the Gita how we can attain Him and thus be eternally happy.
A person in full consciousness of Me, knowing Me to be the ultimate beneficiary of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attains peace from the pangs of material miseries.
Bhagavad Gita – 5.29
Hence if we wish to be eternally happy, we must develop intense love for Krishna and sincerely beg for His mercy.

The secret is to remember Him at all times and surrender with intelligence and mind. We should have unflinching faith and believe in His grace and then we are sure to receive His mercy.

Having said that, remembering Him constantly doesn’t mean that we neglect our material engagements or worldly duties. Rather Krishna has instructed us that while continuing in our respective material engagements and responsibilities, we must always remember Him.
Therefore Arjuna, you should always think of Me in the form of Krishna and at the same time carry out your prescribed duty (of fighting). With your activities dedicated to Me and your mind and intelligence fixed on Me, you will attain Me without doubt.
Bhagavad Gita 8.7
By fixing our mind and intelligence in Krishna and by emitting the perfect thought frequency, we can attain Him without a doubt.

Thus we too can be achievers, all we should do is very sincerely beg the Lord for His mercy, have faith in His grace and we shall certainly, receive His Mercy and go back to Godhead.

This is the secret to attain the perfection of human life.

Who won?

Once there was a huge dispute between the strength of Heatus and Coolus. So they were summoned to the great arena of Temperus and asked to demonstrate their strength.

Heatus took the first step and flamed a candle.
Coolus dropped an ice cube on it. The flame went off.
Heatus burnt a paper and threw it on the ice cube. Ice disappeared.
Coolus took the burning paper and threw it in the LG refrigerator. Fire went off.
Heatus took the refrigerator and threw it in a blast furnace, refrigerator melted with all ice it contained.
Coolus threw the blast furness in a huge iceberg and it went cold.
Heatus threw the iceberg in a volcano, it melted off

The fight continues but let's take a  break with this question - Who is the winner?

In every round, we see that the party with greater volume wins. And in next round that winner is defeated by the opponent, again because of its volume.

Every moment we have a similar fight in our spiritual life, fight against Maya.

We come in the association of devotees, study Scriptures, chant our rounds to spiritually strengthen ourselves from Maya's attacks. To guard ourselves, we have to increase our sadhana volume by regular chanting, reading, hearing, associating with devotees.

We must understand how rare this opportunity of Krishna Consciousness is.
Out of many thousands among men, one may endeavor for perfection, and of those who have achieved perfection, hardly one knows Me in truth.
Bhagavad Gita 7.3

After many births and death, he who is actually in knowledge surrenders unto Me, knowing Me to be the cause of all causes and all that is. Such a great soul is very rare.
Bhagavad Gita 7.19

When we are Maya Conscious we have to helplessly undergo the painful cycle of 84 lakh species and we are not sure after how many millions of lifetimes we will get another chance to practice Krishna Consciousness.

Many times we find people come in Krishna Consciousness with high enthusiasm but cannot continue long, because of a simple reason, Maya is stronger than their self-defense (sadhana). She gives them innumerable logics and reasons to avoid becoming Krishna Consciousness. Because of weak Sadhana, they believe those reasons.

It is seen very practically, the association or assembly of devotees is a place where everyone comes together, learn together, glorify the Supreme Personality of Godhead- Krishna. As time passes, we are taught the basics of our self-defense mechanism, i.e. Sadhana, Chanting - Hearing - Reading-Serving-Associating. Most important of the 4 are Regular Chanting and Association. This is the only defense we have against Maya.

Some of us take it seriously, some don't.

In a matter of time, we can see a change in the level of interest. As the months pass we can see a difference in attendance. Eventually, some unfortunate souls permanently leave the association. Surviving Maya alone is impossible even for yogis what to speak about we fallen souls of Kaliyuga.
This is the worst misfortune a soul can have. They get an extremely rare key to get out of this prison and then they carelessly misplace it, thus undergo the 84 lakhs species and repeated cycle of birth and death!!!

They must be having very very very strong reasons for doing so, but in reality most of the times, those reasons are nothing but an illusionary spell of Maya.

Krishna never manifests Himself to such a foolish soul, that is why they don't get any interest in Krishna Consciousness.

I am never manifest to the foolish and unintelligent. For them I am covered by My internal potency.
Bhagavad Gita 7.25

All of us must have done some pious activities for many lifetimes due to which we got this extremely rare chance to associate with devotees. This is confirmed by Krishna.

Persons who have acted piously in previous lives and in this life and whose sinful actions are completely eradicated are freed from the dualities of delusion, and they engage themselves in My service with determination.
Bhagavad Gita 7.28

Each moment Maya is looking for an opportunity to attack us. The only defense system is our regular Sadhana. Let us not be fooled by Maya and take the path of life imprisonment.

Also we must not run into Maya's claws by committing a Vaishnava Aparadh or offending a Vaishnava.

Never let our ego make us insult or offend any Vaishnava. This Vaishnava Aparadh is the final Knock Out blow from Maya to our Krishna Consciousness and she will give us infinite reasons and opportunities to commit such an offense. *We must never ever indulge in Gossip regarding a devotee (senior junior or peer).

Acharyas suggest keeping 108 arms distance from such people who try to gossip or influence our mind with gossip.

Only when we serve Krishna and His devotees with love, Krishna gives us the intelligence to kill the darkness of Maya.

To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
Bhagavad Gita 10.10

To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.
Bhagavad Gita 10.11

Let us all pray to Narasimha Dev for each others defense system and may we all progress in the blissful path of Krishna Consciousness as shown by our Acharyas.

3 Approaches to Deal with Mind - which one is yours?

"The more serious you are about spiritual life, the more you keep your mind in captivity."
His Holiness Radhanath Swami Maharaj.

The different approach of dealing with the mind can broadly be understood as 3 different ways of handling a dog, the amateur style, the mafia style, and the trainer style.

If we visit an amateur we will see the dog is actually the owner of the house. He even bites the owner when the owner isn't "obedient" to the dog. While dealing with the mind, the majority of us take this approach and get dictated by our mind. Most of the people who aren't even thinking about controlling mind falls under this category. This includes all fake Guru, Sanyasis and Swamis who speak great length about meditation, mind and God but are addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, hookah, intoxication, the taste of flesh, wealth or illicit relation.

The mafia, as soon as he sees the dog not listening to him, he takes out his gun and bang. Some people who realize their mind need to be controlled, opt for a similar approach and follow "Impersonal meditation" techniques. They sit concentrating on light or breath and try to kill their mind, by trying to kill every thought that pops up. Although the matter of fact is 99% of them are unsuccessful & 99.99% of the remaining 1% who got success was definitely not of Kaliyuga City.
If we sit and just do deep breathing, filling our lungs with fresh air, automatically we feel fresh. This freshness is not because of successful meditation by because of increase in Oxygen level in blood. Most of the people get cheated because of this. The goal of meditation is to focus on God not to feel the freshness. Naturally, those who are trying to control their mind must be controlling their senses. If anyone says that he is doing meditation but do intoxication or eat flesh fall in the previous category.

The trainer, he observes the dog's behavior, restricts its demand (disciplines it) and encourages it when obedient. A very few numbers of people, one in a million as said by Krishna, who are intelligent take the effort to train their mind as a dog trainer.
rasa-varjaḿ raso 'py asya, paraḿ dṛṣṭvā nivartate (ceasing such engagements by experiencing a higher taste, he is fixed in consciousness.)
Bhagavad Gita 2.59

They, the devotees of Krishna, are controlling their mind perfectly by engaging it completely on Krishna. It is possible only because they have engaged their senses in the service of Krishna. And the bliss that they get from this, is the higher taste which naturally helps their mind to give up material sense gratification of flesh-eating, intoxication, wealth and illicit relation, without an artificial effort.

Thus a devotee of Lord is considered the greatest Yogi, as Krishna confirms,
And of all yogis, the one with great faith who always abides in Me, thinks of Me within himself and renders transcendental loving service to Me – he is the most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all. That is My opinion.
Bhagavad Gita 6.47

Therefore we must understand the effective and correct way of controlling the mind is by becoming a devotee of the Lord.

All roads DO NOT Lead to Rome!

Today from Karunamoyee,  I wasn't getting any auto to reach my office, so thought of trying the bus. I saw a bus going towards Unitech and I hopped in without thinking.

The bus slowly got over packed and thanks to my dimensions, I got gift wrapped by humans. I couldn't see which way was the bus heading to until I heard we reached City Center 2!!!!

Krishna!! That is the wrong route. I quickly pushed away to make my way out.

Abused and humiliated by the conductor I was standing on the pavement only to realize,

All the roads DO NOT Lead to Rome just like all the buses doesn't take you to Unitech and all the trains don't take you to Delhi and studying Engineering doesn't make you a Doctor.

Is it not a common sense?

But still many are bewildered by a similar thought. They say “Any path you follow, you will reach the Absolute Truth!!!!". It is an infamous and misleading Bengali saying "Joto mot toto poth"

Is it at all possible???

Let us see what Krishna says in  Bhagavad Gita
BG 9.25: Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who worship the ancestors go to the ancestors; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; and those who worship Me will live with Me.

Let us not be a fool like me to believe we will reach the goal by choosing any path/bus. Let us not fall in the words of mental speculators cooking their own philosophy.

Instead, let us lead our life as directed by The Lord through His Scriptures and words passed down to us by Bonafide Sampradaya.
